Travelling in France
Updated COVID travel restrictions for anglers who’ve booked carp fishing holidays in Europe during 2022.
Can I go to France fishing and what are the travel restrictions?
According to the GOV.UK website the French government are easing travel restrictions for those travelling to France from the UK from 14 January 2022. However it’s important to note entry restrictions and requirements may change with little warning. Updates for French travel advice can be found on the GOV.UK website here.
What do i need to do when travelling in France?
Face masks are mandatory in all enclosed public spaces. The use of face masks is mandatory in some city centres. Please check local guidance for more information. Across France, masks are still compulsory in large gatherings, queues, markets and stadiums.
Wearing masks on public transport is compulsory for all users aged 11 and over, with fines for those who are not compliant. Masks are also compulsory in taxis and private hire vehicles without a plexiglass screen.
Some travel operators such as airlines may specify types of masks to be worn on board e.g. surgical masks, and may encourage you to take spares for long journeys. Please check with your travel operator before travelling.
Certain forms of transport, such as cross country trains, will require passengers to demonstrate their COVID-19 status through the “pass sanitaire”. For further details on what this involves see the ‘public spaces and services’ section below.
There are no internal travel restrictions in France. You should visit the French Interior Ministry website or use the ‘TousAntiCovid’ digital app for further information.
These measures may change at short notice either at national or at local level. You should check local guidance for further information.

What countries can I travel to for a carp fishing holiday?
From 4 October 2021, the traffic light system of red, amber and green countries will be scrapped and replaced with one red list only.
With the update in travel rules, destinations such as Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Poland and Romania are now viable options for fully vaccinated anglers. Other notable popular carp fishing destinations include Croatia and Spain. Great news for anyone with a booking on Sumbar lake in Croatia and again, good news for any fully vaccinated anglers fishing for carp and catfish on the River Ebro in Spain. Thailand, also a popular destination among anglers is now permitted for travel. Since 8th May 2021 South Africa, a well known carp fishing holiday destination, continues to remain on the red list.
